What a way to say farewell to Vietnam! Matthew Wright’s swan song was an incredible 20 hours on his bicycle to complete an ‘Everesting’ on Mount Nui Dinh outside HCMC as part of the Ho Chi Minh City, Newborns Vietnam Isla Climbing Challenge on the 11th of June. Everesting is cycling the height of Mount Everest on one mountain in one day. The calculator said, 27 climbs and 14 hours would be enough to climb the 8,884 meters. Alterations were required, a further six hours was a tough mental adjustment, Matthew dug deep, friendship, commitment to Newborns and determination kept him going. He had fantastic support from Marian Von Rappard (20 climbs), the die hards from the Velominati Saigon, Cosimo, Dale, Marie, Sara and others!
The Newborns Vietnam Isla Climbing Challenge and the Everesting have raised $11.200, to provide UK neonatal post qualification training for junior doctors at the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, Hanoi and much needed equipment.

A heroic effort and one worthy of an entry in the Newborns Vietnam Hall of Fame! Matt, huge thanks from the Newborns Vietnam team and good luck in Tashkent.
