Another incredible week for newborn care in Vietnam. 72 doctors, nurses, and midwives from 42 hospitals across central and southern Vietnam have completed Newborn Life Support (NLS) training, equipping them with vital skills to save newborn lives.
This marks a historic transition: from UK-led NLS courses to a Vietnamese-led national program. Congratulations to Dr Nguyen Thi Tu Anh, Tu Du Hospital and Dr Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy), who have now qualified as European Resuscitation Council-certified NLS Course Directors. From now on, they can lead NLS training independently, a major step forward for sustainable newborn resuscitation in Vietnam.
This week also marks the final course led by a UK director. We offer heartfelt thanks to Dr Gary Hartnoll, who has guided this journey since 2019, directing over 40 courses and spending three months each year in Vietnam. His dedication has helped establish four Vietnamese European Resuscitation Council NLS training centres now running courses independently, a true legacy.
Together, we are building a nation of lifesavers.
